Microsoft IE 7 is Out, Now Pay Attention
Internet Explorer 7 is out and in the “new and improved” category we find some security upgrades. A lot of them focus on giving users more information or making it easier to see, but is anyone paying attention?
For example, the new security features include a security status bar that changes colors according to the presences of absence of “High Assurance” certificates and Active X controls can be disabled from the Information Bar. There is also a phishing filter, cross domain barriers, and an address bar for all windows, even pop-ups. These new features are helpful but they still require the user to pay attention to what is going on.
And speaking of paying attention, watch out for the scam email that lures users to download the new version of IE from a bogus Web site, which looks like a Microsoft site, but instead of IE installs a Trojan horse. Looks like we all still need to keep a heads up, IE 7 improvements or not.
