Paper Trails Matter

I commented this morning on lack of a paper trail when I voted in Virginia yesterday. Then I thought of all the ATM receipts that are left near the bank machines - maybe I'm making too much of this. Now, those doubts are gone again, thanks to an CNN article on phishing

Though tech-savvy, proudly paperless home computer users may shun those so-20th-century snail mail bank statements, it might be worth it to go retro and compare your online banking information with the paper record.

Rouland [CTO of IBM Internet security] says criminals in Brazil have figured out ways to wipe out bank accounts and leave no trail in an individual's online account. And bank customers may be out of luck if the theft goes unnoticed for a while.

Paper trails still matter, and I still wouldn't want to run a business without audit trails.
