« A New Kind of Defense:Tapping Malware Vulnerabilities | Main | Database Complexity is a Security Problem »

Do You Need Anti-Virus on Your Smartphone?

The Virus Bulletin posed this question to security researchers and got a surprising answer.

Dirk Hochstrate of G Data argues that there isn't enough of a problem yet and doesn't advocate specialized AV for mobile devices. Anton von Troyer of F-Secure adds:

"By using common sense you can reduce the risk of getting infected by a mobile virus significantly. But the risk remains, especially with the rising spyware problem.

I doubt these somewhat optimistic assessments will hold for long, especially with increase in iPhone/iTouch and Windows Mobile platforms.
