Alleged Hacking Mastermind Arrested in Canada

The Canadians have an Israeli national accused of hacking global financial institutions under arrest and the U.S. wants him extradited.

Canada.com reports 29 year old Ehud Tenenbaum was arrested last week (he had been sentenced to 15 months in prison in Israel for hacking into the Pentagon in 1998):

[The] court heard the allegations involve potentially hundreds of financial institutions in Russia, Turkey, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Germany and other countries.

"Mr. Tenenbaum is alleged by the government of the U.S. to be one of the principal hackers, if not the mastermind, of their entire global operation," federal Crown prosecutor David Gates argued

Mr. Tenenbaum's laywer says his client's activities were

part of a computer-security business in Montreal that was gathering information for security purposes.

If only it was as easy as arresting a high profile hacker and the rest of the world's networks were suddenly more secure. Unfortunately that's never the case and we'll probably never even find out if this Israeli national was really anyone of importance..... C'est la vie...
