Not Much Good News on the Phishing Front

The Anti-Phishing Working Group has released a report on phishing trends as of August, 2006. The bad news is the number of phishing reports is up from the previous month. The good news is the trend has slowed slightly. Another one for the bad news category is that password stealing malicious URLs were up in August. They had dropped in July but June was the peak month for this category in the past twelve months.

Phishing and spam reports will have variation from month to month but the trend lines for both are not encouraging. An article on fighting spam was recently posted on the Messaging and Web Security community, it has details on how to keep spam and phishing under control. There is also a whitepaper on anti-phishing best practices on the site.
