Security Awareness is More Important Than You Might Think
Tis’ the season and all but there isn’t much cheer on the info security front. I just read a frightening statistic: mobile phones are out shipping PCs by a 5 to 1 ratio, according to Unstrung.com. Yesterday I posted an entry about how small businesses are lacking even basic security in spite of their confidence in their security measures. Now I read that devices (which are becoming hand-held PCs) are landing in the hands of teenagers and not so techno-savy adults at a scary pace. Tis’ the season to lock down the network.
But don’t stop there. Security awareness is critical. I know it sounds soft and it’s not nearly as interesting as a good encryption algorithm, but we can’t control security risks with technology alone. Lets face it, the bad guys are leading on the technology front right now with million-device botnets, more resilient command and control mechanisms, and successful attacks on networks run by people that know info sec.
