What is the Trusted Computing Platform and Why You Should Care
The Trusted Computing Platform (TCP) is a cross-platform hardware-based platform for improving security. The TCP specifications are developed by industry members and are vendor neutral. The TPM is based on a microcontroller that stores security data (e.g. passwords, crypto keys, digital certificates, etc) and provide services to higher level operations, such as encryption programs, PKI, etc which in turn are used for user and device authentication and integrity verification of devices. Devices are available today with TCP hardware.
The TCP focus areas, include:
PC client security
Server security
Mobile devices
Software stack
Storage security
