What to Expect with Vista: User Authentication

Windows Vista is adding a number of security improvements, including improved support for authentication services. For starters, Vista supports passwords and smart cards as we'd expect but it now supports custom authentication methods, like biometrics. A smart card API is provided as well. This can be especially useful for organizations looking to move beyond simple single factor authentication. Financial services organizations working under new regulatory guidelines, for example, may move to implement two-factor authentication to improve online banking security.

In the next few blog enteries, we'll look at other improved security features within Vista.
