Internet Security Threat Report Now Tracks Fortune 100
Symantec has released their twelfth Internet Security Threat Report for the first half of 2007 and for the first time they are tracking malicious activity originating in Fortune 100 companies. The report finds that although the Fortune 100 companies account for 7% of the allocated IP addresses, only 4% of malicious activity originates there. The authors of the report suggests these companies would be "enticing targets". Yes, they'd be targets for data theft but probably less likely to be targeted for botnets which could be more easily established on poorly protected home machines.
Other findings include:
1. Home users were the target of 95% of attacks
2. The education sector accounted for 30% of data breaches that could lead to identity theft
3. China had the most botnet infected computers with 29% of the total
4. The U.S. had the most botnet command and control centers with 43%
5. 61% of vulnerabilities affected Web applications.
