Which Way to Go? Mac Leopard and .Mac or Google Services?

Today I'm writing an inverse advice column, I'm not offering tips on how to improve your life, I'm looking for some.

Dear Reader,

I find myself in a dilemma with the release of Apple's new Mac OS, Leopard. I saw the promo video and like all the new features, like the well designed search facility, better document previewing, calendar and mail clients, and the automatic incremental backups. I'm ready to buy. I also like the idea of .Mac, the online service that allows me to backup online, host a web site, get email, and all the rest; plus it comes with a family pack version that sounds promising. I think the combo of Leopard and .Mac is ideal. But...

I already use and like Goggle mail, calendar, and the desktop replacement apps. I like them a lot. Their OS agnostic and so for those of use who can't seem to commit to a single operating system after all these years, this seems ideal. I'm not sure I can have the best of both worlds, at least not yet, in spite of what Nicholas Carr says. And by the way I can't wait to get my hands on a Asus Eee, that is assuming they ever release the damn thing, but that just brings Linux into the mix.

So, should I commit to Apple, Leopard, .Mac and all? Will I have the freedom I have with Google? Or is this an irrelevant question since the gravitational pull of the giant googleplex will eventually suck me in along with everyone else? Can a person have their Mac and Google, too? Advice is welcome.
