Cloud Computing Security

There are many advantages of cloud computing, like the promise of resources on demand and lower costs, but improved security isn't one of them.

GridComputing examines some of the potential security issues with cloud computing and find a number of things to keep in mind when considering cloud computing:

  • cloud resources are a prime target for attackers
  • providers with unaudited access to your data
  • human error on the part of providers
  • reuse of resources
  • potential vulnerabilities in cloud APIs
The economic drivers underlying the adoption of cloud computing could easily get ahead of security considerations. We should keep in mind a quote from one CEO of a cloud providers:
If you have an unprotected machine in the datacenter, it will be compromised within 10 minutes.
