How to Get Fired For Using Corporate Email
Some lessons in security are easily learned from other people's examples. For instance, if you are feeling ready for a career change but just can't make the move, try sending death threats to some one you disagree with and see if that doesn't get you job hunting.
NetworkWorld is reporting an employee of 1-800-Flowers was dismissed after an email was sent from her corporate email account to a university professor known to be critical of religion and creationism. The article quoted the email which said:
"You have two choices," the e-mail read. "[Y]ou can quit your job for the good of the children. Or you can get your brains beat in."
The employee's claim that someone else sent the email wasn't good enough to save her job. Employees are responsible for protecting the integrity of their email accounts and this incident was enough to justifying dismissal.
This is one to keep in mind before allowing the kids to use your work laptop to keep them entertained on a rainy vacation day.
