Cloud Computing and Security

We've just posted a new article on security and cloud computing. Here's an excerpt:

The idea of buying computing resources as a service and as demand dictates is a compelling proposition. Say goodbye to capital expenditures, searching for specialized talent to run high-end servers and networks, and extra costs for redundancy and fault tolerance; what could be wrong with this picture? Not a lot if we look at just the positive side of the argument for cloud computing, but there are still substantial management challenges to anyone moving to a cloud platform. The advantages can certainly outweigh the risks in some cases, and cloud computing, both in theory and in practice, is promising right now and in the near future. One problem with new technologies, though, is that it takes time to establish best practices. If one is executing due diligence on a cloud computing initiative, it is prudent to go back to fundamentals. This article will examine the fundamental security issues with cloud computing and point out some of the areas that warrant consideration before making substantial moves to cloud computing.
