Consume Reports Gives Thumbs Down to Apple Safari
It's somewhat ironic that Macs are perceived to be more secure than Windows devices yet the default browser on Mac OS X regularly gets bottom honors when it comes to security.
Consumer Reports (via The Register) pans Apple's browser for not doing enough on the anti-phishing front. The consumer watchdog group recommends Firefox or Opera and anti-phishing toolbars like McAfee SiteAdvisor or FirePhish.
I've never been a fan of Safari's functionality but it does work well for downloading Firefox. I can't understand why Apple would continue to promote a free product that is so inferior to other free, more feature rich browsers. They would do their customers a favor and boost their reputation as a secure alternative to Windows if they bundled Firefox.
