Voting Machine Drops Votes, Vendor Blamed Anti-Virus
The seasonal drama of electronic voting machines begins again. Today the Washington Post is reporting that a programming error in some Premier Election Solutions (once known as Diebold) machines dropped votes when transferring data to central servers.
The vendor blamed anti-virus software and human error for the problem but just this week the vendor admitted they were not the problem and:
"We are indeed distressed that our previous analysis of this issue was in error,"
A spokesman for the company said:
he was "confident" that elections officials through the years would have realized votes had been dropped when they crosschecked their tallies to certify final elections results and would have reloaded cards so as not to lose votes.
I hope for voters sake we don't here later that he is distressed about being in error about this conclusion, too.
