Google Chrome Vulnerabilities
Not surprisingly Google Chrome vulnerabilities are coming to light, is this an indication that they shouldn't have bothered and instead should have put there efforts into helping Mozilla improve Firefox?
Not at all. Sure the list of vulnerabilities is growing (see Ryan Naraine's blog for a list) and there are disputes about which browser is faster (Mozilla says Firefox is) but those are distractions, more like the attention grabbing antics of political campaigns than the more fundamental and ultimately more important attributes of the browsers. The question should be does the introduction of Chrome advance the state of the art in browser implementation.
Rethinking the browser from the ground up is an idea whose time has come. There will be cross pollination between the open source browsers with benefits that wouldn't have been realized if only incremental improvements were made to an existing platform.
Like political campaigns, we should focus on fundamentals, not just headline grabbing topics like which is faster today or the fact that a new vulnerability was found in a beta version of code.
