How Serious is Google about Google Apps?

How long will Google stick with online apps? The fact that GE chose Zoho over Google is just the tip of the iceberg heading toward Google Apps.

The bigger issue is how little has improved in Google Apps since its inception. The word processor and spreadsheet, arguably the key applications in any office replacement suite, are not nearly as good as the competition. Google has the resource to make Google Apps much more than it is; why isn't it?

Google is better at the lower levels of IT infrastructure. Nimble companies like Zoho are showing you don't need Google's deep pockets to compete in this market but you do need to keep improving your product.
