Concerns About Database Security
How secure are your 100+ Oracle instances? The growing number of databases is a real concern for DBAs.
SearchSecurity reports on a survey by the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) of DBAs which finds many feel they have secured their databases. Ian Abramson, president of the IOUG, isn't so sure, but DBAs aren't the problem:
"[Company executives] feel confident that they have enough controls in and around their data that they won't run into any problems."
It the ages old problem of balancing security with functionality and nobody wants to screw-up the database. You can have database functionality and security, check out The Oracle Hackers Handbook and Oracle security expert Peter Finnigans blog for more on this.
