Apple: Run Anti-Virus on Macs

The Mac OS is running on hand held devices to high end desktops so it is no surprise that it is a target for malware developers. Apple has come to the same conclusion.

From a post on the Apple support site, comes:

Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult.

Other security practices, like running a personal firewall and routinely patching also go for Macs as well. Apple's recommendation should help dispel the myth that some operating systems are immune to malware. A good next step would be to publicize the problem of social engineering attacks.
