Facebook is the New Email, At Least for Spreading Malware

The social-network spreading worm Koobface is spreading on Facebook and luring users to download what appears to be an updated version of Flash.

Facebook users get a message that may come from a friend who has been infected. This is social engineering 101. McAfee Avert Labs offers a "here we go again" piece of advice:

It's important to note that spammed links leading to Koobface are likely to come from infected friends, reminiscent of early mass-mailing worms. The safe-computing practice created more than 10 years ago still applies today, which is not to open any unexpected email attachments

Even with innovative Web 2.0 applications, there isn't much new under the sun.
